OPTUS has denied pricing details that were apparently “leaked” to an Australian technology website.
This contradicts what Optus told NEWS.com.au this week, and again today, that the iPhone will be also available on prepay without a contract.
Gizmodo.com.au published details sent by “a friendly tipster” that claimed the iPhone would only be available on a contract.
The anonymous tipster also claimed the 8GB iPhone model will cost $220, the 16GB $330, and both would only be available on a 24-month contract.
Gizmodo published a “leaked” printout with two columns that outlined an Optus iPhone plan with a $79 Cap and another with a $99 Cap. Both plans appeared to include a relatively small amount of data – 1GB per month on the $79 Cap, and 3GB for the $99 Cap.
Apple chief executive officer Steve Jobs caused a stir earlier this week when he unveiled the new model iPhone 3G with a promise of price cuts.
The iPhone will be released in Australia on July 11, but the prices - outright and with a contract - have not been confirmed.
